Train to Dijon & meeting the barge

When the alarm went off this morning, I was sleeping like a rock.  Great night of sleeping.  Although I could sleep even longer, I am fresh and ready for a new day.  This morning is just breakfast at the hotel, a short walk discovering a local church.

We head to the train station around mid-day for the high speed French TGV train to Dijon.

... two days later, we have made it to Dijon and have had two wonderful days on Barge  Bonheur.  However, internet connectivity is extremely limited and for the past 36 hours it has been non-existent.  Pictures uploading is impossible.

In short:
  • Train to Dijon-ville
  • Greeted by Paul & Annie, our barge hosts
  • Wonderful dinner on board
  • Tour of Clos de Vougeot, surrounded by vineyards and the headquarters of the Chevalier de Tastevin whose special label is awarded annually to the finest Cote d’Or vintages
  • Wine tasting in the famous wine village of Nuits St George
  • Barge down the Canal de Borgogne passing through many locks
  • Dinner at a charming Irish restaurant in a very small town near the canal
  • Visit market day in Dijon with a special tour of local palaces and churches as well as a stop at a Dijon mustard shop for mustard tasting
  • More barging down the canal with dinner again on board the barge
More later with better connectivity.  We are alive!

Our residence for the week, the Barge Bonheur:

A daily ritual is late afternoon "appertif", usually on the wonderful upper deck of the barge:
