Day Three: to Bartlesville, Oklahoma

We spent the morning hiking around Eureka Springs which you know, if you've been here, is built into a hillside.  After breakfast at the hotel
we hiked down through the main shopping area and took the hotel shuttle bus back up.  Eureka Springs is a cool, sort of Bohemian town and a neat place to visit.

We found a cool book-themed stained glass window in the Carnegie library.

On the way toward Bartlesville, we stopped at Roaring River State Park in Missouri for a short hike.  The river may be roaring on some days but this wasn't one of them.
After being pleasantly surprised by Oklahoma speed limits, we arrived in downtown Bartlesville in late afternoon and checked into the Inn at Price Tower, another one of the Historic Hotels of America.  The Price Tower was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and is the only high rise structure built to a FLW design.  The upper floors of the building are a hotel.  This is the main reason we are in Bartlesville tonight.  The building is unmistakenly Wright.  And yes, Matt, it does leak.
Notice the Wright signature corner glass in our room:
And Bev looking very professional at her FLW designed desk:
After grabbing a very late lunch/early dinner in the Copper Bar on the sixteenth floor and taking a stroll around downtown Bartlesville including the Phillips Center (this is the home of Phillips Petroleum), we were surprised to find out that a touring Broadway production of West Side Story was playing tonight in the 2,000 seat theater of the Bartlesville Community Center across the street.  It was an excellent performance.  It has been so long since I have seen the movie/play that I was actually a little surprised at the ending!  I was also surprised by the gentleman in the front row who arrived wearing his cowboy hat and never took it off.  Maybe he sleeps with it on.

I think that we are a little more half way to San Antonio and we've used up three of the six allotted days to get there so we're pretty much right on track.  Tomorrow after Bartlesville, we head out for a location not yet determined.  We want to be in Texas hill country (Fredericksburg or environs) on Friday night and will stay somewhere in between to break up driving.

Oh, did I mention that the temperature here today was in the mid-80s?  The low tonight will only get down to 64.
