We have safely arrived home after a very successful trip.

We dropped off the car at the Volvo Factory Delivery Center (FDC) early Wednesday morning.  It was a bittersweet moment to be sure.  While we enjoyed our time with the car and we know that it needs to be shipped to get to the US, nevertheless we would have preferred to just keep driving.  Bev has reminded me several times already that I don't have many of the safety features contained in the Volvo.  I'll have to "make do" with the Audi for several weeks.

According to the car's odometer, we put on 891 miles in the five days that we had the car.  Interestingly (to probably only me),  Garmin, which we had on virtually the entire time that we were in the car, logged 925 miles.  I don't think that we backed up 34 miles to account for the difference, or even 17 miles assuming that Garmin logged both directions.

The FDC again warmly welcomed us and completed the minimal but necessary paperwork in just a few a minutes.  Our car will travel by ship to Baltimore and by land to our local dealer in St. Paul.  We expect to arrive sometime between Halloween and Thanksgiving.  We have been very pleased with the overseas delivery.  Everything has been handled superbly by Volvo and the FDC during the entire process.

Happily, I was informed that our new Volvo isn't subject to the recall notice for US cars recently in the news and on which I commented here last week.  Since this car is delivered in Sweden, all necessary updates and modifications either have been or will be applied before the vehicle leaves Sweden.

The FDC then pleasantly surprised us by providing still another driver to deliver us to Landvetter airport outside of  Goteborg.  We were "up" for the journey home for about twenty-four consecutive hours before our heads hit the pillows of our own bed just before midnight last night.  We did "cat nap" on the plane.  The Copenhagen to Chicago flight was scheduled for about nine hours.  Luckily, our plane had a minor mechanical problem after boarding so we were treated to an extra hour in our SAS seats.  Returning east to west is always much easier (it is just a long day) than going east (missing a night).

More later on what we liked or didn't like.  Actually we liked it all.  But I need to "re-enter" my normal life again now.
