Wednesday, Sep 2: Overnight to Zurich, Train to Luzern

Welcome to day 2 ... or is it just a continuation of day 1?  We overnighted from Minneapolis to Amsterdam and then to Zurich.  I managed to get 3+ hours of sleep on the plane so all is well on that front.  We did manage to fall asleep on the 1 1/2 flight from Amsterdam to Zurich this afternoon and happily missed our airline "snack".  We did glimpse remainders from fellow diners, er I mean, passengers, and it was better missed.  The apple strudel and chocolate chip yogurt at the airport was much better.

We successfully figured out the Swiss train system between the Zurich Airport and Luzern.  As Annie from last summer in France would say, "Easy peasy".  It was a little surprising, however, at how empty our first class car was leaving the airport.
Luzern embodies the storybook image of a Swiss town and abounds in cobblestone streets, slender spires and turrets, covered bridges and frescoed houses.
After checking into our hotel, the Romantic Wilden-Mann,
we take a stroll around town and stay awake long enough to have our first "real Swiss meal" at Cafe Nix.
After settling in at an outside table by the river
Bev had snail, bacon and mushroom lasagne
while I devoured the delicious lamp hip in pepper sauce with gnocchi.
We are back at the hotel now and are about at the end of our ropes.  Not much sightseeing today.  The first day is more about surviving (getting there, staying awake and getting grounded).  We hit the streets of Luzern and the lake tomorrow.
