Sunday, Sep 13: Grand Hotel Du Loc, Vevey, Switzerland

We easily survived our last four train (three transfers) journey today from the sleepy mountain village of Grindelwald to lakeside luxury on Lac LeMan (Lake Geneva) in Vevey.  We were startled by an announcement on our train between Interlaken and Bern announcing that the train we were on was being terminated in Bern "due to an accident with a person" (affecting a train on down the line).  I don't know what that was but, thankfully, it did not affect our continued route to Lausanne since we were switching trains anyway in Bern.  We even had twelve minutes at one transfer and looked around wondering why we were spending of all that time on the platform.

The Grand Hotel du Lac welcomed us.

The view from the balcony of our room overlooking Lac LeMan.
Vevey has a very nice promenade directly behind the hotel along Lac LeMan.
Vevey also has many sculptures.  The hotel clerk told us about their famous "fort".  We didn't know about a famous "fort" but we were willing to learn.  It turns out we didn't hear very well.  Here is a picture of their very famous "fork".  We hadn't heard about the famous "fork" either.
Vevey is in the Lavoux wine growing region with grape vines on the lakeside hills.  Very scenic.
Surprisingly, we stumbled into a special wine promotion/tasting/party featuring wines of the Lavoux region.  Admission was by purchase of a Reidel wine glass (at a reasonable price for the glass itself).  And by "tasting" the Swiss mean "drinking" as the pours were generous whereas in restaurants they are not.  It is clear that the wine "fair" was a much better deal.
On the way back to the hotel, we encounter a lovely antique carousel.  And kids do what kids of all ages do ...

And, of course, we stop for ice cream.
Currently waiting for the possibility of a good sunset.  It is raining and the cloud formation is promising.
