Friday, August 24, 2018: Copenhagen Canal Boat, Dinner in Helsinki

Greetings from 60.1 degrees north latitude and Helsinki, the northernmost Nordic capital and the northernmost European city.  We have flown here from Copenhagen this afternoon.

But first we take a canal boat excursion around Copenhagen.
Earlier we passed the Opera House where I mentioned the diving board from the roof into the sea.  Today, we find a person preparing the jump for a diving competition happening this weekend.
Copenhagen intends to be carbon neutral in just a few years.  Denmark does not have nuclear or hydro power and wind turbines are limited to offshore locations.  As part of the carbon neutral project, they have built a garbage incinerator to consume garbage and generate energy.  It has been built with a sloping roof that doubles as a ski run (Denmark also has no mountains) in the winter months.
Also earlier, I showed you a picture of the Little Mermaid statue taken from the land.  This shot from the water shows the difficulty in obtaining that picture with people literally teeming around the site.  And, I'm sure that I am in many of their photos.
As we navigate the canals, fellow National Geographic travelers pop up from time to time to take their own photographs.  To me, this resembles prairie popping up and down from their holes.
Beverly was excited as we passed "The Black Diamond" building, the Copenhagen library.
We return to Nyhavn ...
and pass Hans Christian Anderson's house.
Lunch in Nyhavn is at the Cap Horn restaurant.

Then ... we fly to Helsinki.

Dinner tonight is at a Russian restaurant since we are only 200-some miles from St. Petersburg ...
where we dine on borscht ...
salmon ...
chicken Kiev ...
and baked Alaska.
Sorry about all of the food pictures.  But basically all we did today was canal boat, eat, fly and eat.  A good day indeed.
