Wednesday, October 5, 2016: Acclimating to Gatlinburg

Life in the mountains is good.  Great night's sleep except for the occasional BANG of acorns hitting the metal roof and rolling off.  We are used to this sound as we live in a house with a metal roof in the Northwoods.  And the bang there is loud.  But these acorns are so big that, if we didn't already have our Northwoods experience, we would swear that we were being shot at.  And since this is the South ...

I awaken after daybreak to discover that our view of the Smoky's is almost exactly in the direction of the sunrise.
Of course, we have a little computer catch up time on the deck this morning.
On our "down day" we visit a few of the many craft shops along this section of Gatlinburg's Arts & Crafts loop very near our cabin and without having to go anywhere near downtown Gatlinburg.
We met a professional photographer last night at the wine and tapas bar.  So we asked him, "where would you go nearby to take great pictures of the Smoky Mountains?"  He told us.  So after a nondescript lunch, we head to the Pitman Center Elementary School.  This is just one of several shots.
After nap time back at the cabin it is time to eat again, this time at the Fox & Parrot Tavern, an English Pub, for Shepard's Pie (shrimp for Bev) and chips.  There are so many of these out-of-the-way places down here that we think this may be a haven for the witness protection program.
Since we neglected to bring our bathing suits, the only shot of the hot tub that you get (and would want) is one before we clambered in.
Now a little wine, do the blog and relax.
