Wednesday, May 31: Trade Fair Palace (Museum of Modern Art), Little Quarter, Farewell Dinner

Prague has been wonderful.  Prague is a great city, it has great everything, architecture, art, history and charm.  But if I was asked to describe Prague in one word it would have to be: COBBLESTONE.  Cobblestones are everywhere adding to the ambiance and charm of the city.  Cobblestones also provide a beating to legs, feet and shoes.  I will consider bringing hiking boots on my next trip.
This morning we are off to the Trade Fair Palace (Narodni Galerie v Praze), a museum of modern, i.e., 1800s and 1900s, art
where our group is provided a guided tour by Petra.
Chris and Chick are rapt.
We peruse the galleries
gazing at amazing art

 including a Renior.
We have a quick and light lunch of sausages, mustard and horseradish.  Oh my, the horseradish was wonderful.  My sinuses are clear and my tears are only now dry.  After the disappointing, very mild horseradish in Vienna, this horseradish was wonderful.
We take the very modern, very efficient tram system from the museum to the "Little Quarter", the portion of the city on the west side of the Vltava River below the castle. It is an area of small, quaint streets, little shops and gorgeous buildings.
In the main square is St. Nicholas Cathedral.  This is a different church than St. Nicholas in Old Town where we heard the concert on Monday.

We visit the John Lennon Wall, a wall in the Little Quarter near the Charles Bridge where anti-communist slogans were painted during the communist occupation, often quoting John Lennon.  The authorities would paint over the slogans in the daytime only to have them reappear again at night.  This is only a portion of a much longer wall.  Today it was thronged with young people.
This is the still-turning paddle wheel in the old mill.
We find a very calm and soothing park to rest a bit and admire the flowers.
Walking in Old Town I am struck by a Kosta Boda (Swedish) store sign right next to a Praha (Prague) store sign.  Am I in a space warp?  Am I in Sweden?  Am I in Prague?
Bev buys a trdlo, a spirally wound, freshly baked pastry filled with ice cream for fortification walking back to the hotel.
Tonight we are sad to have a very wonderful farewell dinner at Tri Stoleti (three centuries) Restaurant back in the Little Quarter which we reach after walking over the Charles Bridge.
Our wonderful group of 23 fellow travelers are at two tables.  We have become friends during these two weeks together.

And we thank our wonderful Prague guides, Jana
and her older sister, Pavla.
And our final Czech dessert, fruit crepe.  Well, maybe, there is always the airport tomorrow ...
Amsterdam tomorrow.
