First Blog Post (maybe)

OK, folks, I'm new at this blogging thing.  But I'll give it a try.  Bev & I leave for Sweden on Tuesday.  Provided that I'm successful at getting a European data connection, I'll attempt to blog a bit during our trip.  I'll let you know how the Swedish meatballs are.  Exciting, huh?

It has been a big day.  Lots of driving and lots of stops.  A couple of waterfalls both very different from the earlier waterfalls.  Churches and more churches.  I hope that you don't get tired of churches.  And the black sand of the southern coast. As I'm driving to our first waterfall, I spot a church out in the country.  I stop.  It is Braeoratungukirkja.  Seljalandsfoss is a really cool waterfall.  It is a 220 foot monster. As you get closer it is even more impressive. But the really cool thing is that you can walk behind the waterfall.  The spray from the waterfall is impressive.  You will get soaked.  Guide books warn about ruining camera equipment.  So the Nikon goes back into the car and I don full rain gear.  There is no way that I'm not doing this.  You may laugh but my iPhone 12 Pro is submersible for 30 minutes and it has wide angle.  This is what it looks like. Wednesday, September 11: Catalan National Day

First up today after a leisurely morning is the Museu D'Historia de Barcelona which is an archeological dig in ancient Barcelona adjacent to and under the Cathedral.  This is the foundation of a textile factory. And, of course, ancient Spaniards needed a winery. After such an exhausting excavation, we need a wine break on the adjacent Placa de Rei. Unbeknownst to us when planning the trip, it turns out that today is Catalan National Day.  Catalonia (the northeastern part of Spain) has been clamoring for independence from Spain to the point of holding a referendum a year or two ago.  This was frowned upon by the folks in Madrid who arrested and imprisoned several Catalan leaders responsible for the referendum and sending the some into exile.  They were convicted in a trial last spring and are to be sentenced this fall.  Today celebrates Catalan independence.  Parades and perhaps demonstrations are expected.  It should be fun. Saturday, May 20: Budapest and Prague: Capital Cities and Jewels of Central Europe

The blog is active again as we begin our next adventure.  We are headed to Budapest and Prague. In December we took our first Road Scholar tour to Christmas markets in Europe and had a great time.  So we are excited to begin our second Road Scholar adventure, this time learning about the architecture, music, history and politics of two great cities while touring beautiful sites.  We found our first Road Scholar combination of education with expert guidance in a small group a wonderful experience and we are expecting no less on this trip.
