Texas Road Trip: Day One

We've started the "Texas Road Trip" today.  Bev and I are on an eleven day Volvo trip to San Antonio for a children's book conference, the ABA/CBC Children's Institute.  It's only a 1+ day conference and, hence, a little much to fly down.  So we decided that it was time to take the Volvo on a real road trip.  We're taking six days driving the roughly 1200 miles down (about the same distance as from the TC to Boston).  It is virtually, or maybe actually, unprecedented that we are going on a trip WITHOUT RESERVATIONS!  Although we have a general idea of where we MAY end up each night, we're keeping the itinerary flexible depending on what we find along the way. Actually, yesterday was day zero from Cable to the TC.  Then this morning on day one, we hit the road early, drove through a lot of rain, left the snow behind and had lunch with the Miller side of the family at Monica's in Coralville, Iowa.  We spent the afternoon and early evening with Bev&
